Opera globetrotting 2010-2011

If you, like Classicalify, is globetrotting around the world to see the best opera performances, well here are some teasers for the coming season. You will find all the information you need on the respective venues homepages.

Jonas Kaufmann will give a recital at Copenhagen Tivoli on August 31 and he will later show off in "Adriana Lecouvreur" opposite La Gheorghiu in Berlin (concert) and Covent Garden.

The most interesting at Covent Garden must be "Niobe, Regina de Tebe" by Steffani (Schwetzingen production) and Turnage's "Anna Nicole" (Eva-Maria Westbroek in title role). If you fancy (who does?) steroid hunk Endrik Wottrich, Covent Garden cast him as Florestan with Nina Stemme as Leonore (March-April 2011). "Werther" with Villazon is also coming up, as well as Massenet's rare "Cendrillon".

Royal Festival Hall, London, together with Opera Rara, will give us "Aureliano in Palmira" and at the same venue you can hear Anne Sofi von Otter as Brangäne in September. Christine Brewer cancelled her Isolde and we get Violeta Urmana instead. Lots of nudity on film in that one!

Nina Stemme will sing Elisabeth in "Tannhäuser" with Vesselina Kasarova as Venus in Zürich February 2011. In Zürich you can also enjoy Cecilia Bartoli in Rossini's "Le Comte Ory" - yeah why not?

La Monnaie in Brussels will see Swedish alto and No 1-Mahler interpreter Anna Larsson sing her first Kundry. And if you are a Meyerbeer Grand Opera fanatic Brussels is the place to be - Les Huguenots is a must!

If you like nudity, pornography, sex and violence then head for Berlin late June 2011 and get yourself a ticket for Poulenc's "Gespräch der Karmeliterinnen" - Calixto Bieito is directing! And when in Berlin, check out Staatsoper for Peter Eötvös "Tre Sestri".
