We like Stockholm Early Music Festival

Do you want some baroque extravaganza? Well, then you should head for Old Town in Stockholm June 9-13.

This early music festival started in 2003 and is now a major one for baroque afficionados, at least in Stockholm. This year the festival is giving us world star countertenor Philippe Jaroussky to start with and then follow several good performances in churches and venues in Old Town. If you check the program you also notice several performances is for children.

In 2004 SEMF gave us the first performance in Sweden from Andreas Scholl and in 2005 Il Giardino Armonico visited. You might wonder how it come this partly unknown and quite small festival succeeds in bringing some of the world's greatest artists to Stockholm... Well, who knows? And who gives a shit as long as they get these stars to Stockholm...

But still, to Classicalify the BIG question is why the big venues like Royal Opera, Konserthuset and Berwaldhallen is not the ones signing these artists up in the first place!
