La Traviata. Royal Opera house. London

The Royal opera house production of Giuseppe Verdis "La Traviata" markes the return of the Romanian Soprano Angela Gheorghiu in the part of Violetta. A role she has not performed since 1994 then conducted by Sir Georg Solti. This production is exactly as in 1994.
Set in the 1850's. The cast included: James Valenti as Alfredo Germont a tall very handsome tenor who needs to work on his acting and unfortunatly also the high notes.

Zeljko Lucic as Giorgo Germont. Baryton singer who had a very incisive and rounded reading of his part. Some great singers from the Jette Parker young artists programme
such as Changhan Lim as Marquis d'obigny and Kai Rüütel as Flora Bervoix.
The Royal Opera house orchestra and Choir conducted by Yves Abel was under safe hands with wonderful orchestration. Angela Gheorghiu certainly gave an amazing performance. She is a wonderful singer and shows that singing is technique.
She gave an execessively mannered and solipsistic interpretation of Violetta.
Gheorghiu showed that this is a part she likes.
This production was staged before in London last year starring Reené Fleming and also in 2005 starring Anna Netrebko.
If you would like to see Gheorghiu perform in London she will sing in Puccini's classic opera Tosca next year with among others Jonas Kaufmann and Bryn Terfel.
