Dame Margaret - RIP

Welsh Opera star Dame Margaret Price died at her home near Cardigan in Wales at the age of 69 as a result of heart failure on Friday January 28, 2011.
Considered one of the leading sopranos in the world, Dame Margaret made her debut in 1962 as Cherubino in the “Marriage of Figaro” by Mozart. She went on to repeat the performance at the Royal Opera House at Convent Garden in London.
By her retirement in 1999 Dame Margaret had graced the stage in many of the world’s greatest Opera Houses. She was known for the purity and beauty of her soprano voice.
Among her many honours was knighthood – Dame Commander of the British Empire - by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 1993.
