Claudio Abbado passed away yesterday at the age of 80. He had his last concert in Luzern on the 26 of August last year. After the concerts in Luzern he cancelled several concerts including a tour of Japan with Lucerne Festival Orchestra. Classicalify was in Vienna to see him conduct Beethoven and Schumann but unfortunatly Claudio was so ill he couldn't come. Bernard Haitink stepped in to conduct what was to be the last concert of Orchestra Mozart which has been suspended. Classicalify first saw Claudio Abbado conduct in Luzern in 2006 and since then been to Luzern every year and two years ago in Berlin for a concert with the Berliner philharmoniker. There will never be someone like him ever again. My thoughts are with his family and friends. Thank you Claudio for all the amazing concerts and what you have done for music.
